18K Gold Capped Replica Watch: Craft & Process Explained

Let’s talk about why gold finishes on replica watches fade. For gold replica watches, the usual process is to first produce silver watch cases, then outsource them to electroplating factories for gold coating. High-quality gold finishes last much longer, while poor-quality ones wear off drastically within just a few months. This is the most basic entry-level electroplating process. Manufacturers often outsource coating work at low prices to cut costs.

There is also the PVD process. Simply put, it applies a vacuum film over the colored electroplated layer. It seals the gold layer off from air and skin contact to extend the service life of the finish. Many major factories have adopted this technique recently, delivering better color retention.

Today we will introduce gold-capped watches, a new service we have launched. Apart from solid gold watches sold at official boutiques, any surface gold coating will fade eventually. Electroplating, PVD coating and gold capping are all designed to prolong this fading process.

Take gold-craft for instance. Our processor applies a 0.3mm thick layer of 18K gold followed by PVD treatment, with a 3-year color retention guarantee. For a replica watch, a lifespan of three to four years is more than sufficient. Today we will use this Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Moonphase watch as an example to walk you through the whole procedure.

Once the processing factory receives the watch, they calculate the cost based on the surface area of each timepiece. For example, watches with leather straps cost less since the strap does not require gold capping, whereas models with metal bracelets are more expensive. Larger-dial watches such as Audemars Piguet pieces carry an even higher price tag. Prices generally range from 1900 to 3000.

We then send the quotation to customers. Once confirmed, all watch components (except the movement) will be fully disassembled. All visible gold parts of the watch, including the crown, clasp, case back and bezel, will receive the gold-capped treatment. The whole process takes roughly 10 working days.

The gold sections shown in the picture below will all undergo gold-capped treatment. After the factory completes the work and delivers the watch, we carry out quality inspection. Once the watch passes inspection, we collect the final payment from the customer and arrange shipment.

The factory will also issue an appraisal certificate listing information such as composition, weight of the karat gold used, and gold proportion. This certificate is for reference only. We encourage customers to get independent testing upon receipt. Our goal is to deliver genuine quality with honest pricing for every buyer.
