This all-new generation of the Planet Ocean brings quite a number of updates. It features a much more rugged, masculine look. Some say it bears a strong resemblance to Rolex watches, yet visually it is undeniably more attractive than older versions. It measures 42mm in diameter, with sharp angular lines inspired by the Seamaster Planet Ocean “Neptune” model. The orange bezel is exclusive to the Planet Ocean line, really eye-catching in summer.

The most obvious upgrade for the 4th generation is the drastically reduced thickness, dropping from over 16.1mm down to 13.79mm. It feels significantly lighter in hand and loses the bulky heft typical of traditional dive watches. The redundant helium escape valve and date function have both been removed. It houses VS Factory’s integrated movement engraved with “8912”, paired with a solid case back.

It retains two-tone hands with superb luminous coating and offers approximately 60 hours of power reserve. If you find the orange version too bold, black or blue bezel variants are available. Personally, I think the orange bezel delivers outstanding brand recognition. If you feel the Submariner design has stayed unchanged for too long, the Planet Ocean is worth considering. Robust and reliable, it also boasts excellent water resistance.
