IWC unveiled the new-generation Ingenieur at Watches & Wonders Geneva 2023. Designed by Gérald Genta, it pays homage to the designer’s iconic 1970s creation, the Ref. 1832.
The 40mm case features a blend of vertical brushing, circular graining and mirror polishing. Its carefully reworked lines deliver softer, smoother contours, with a case thickness of 10.7mm.
The bezel is secured firmly by five screws. The lug details and H-link bracelet adopt newly refined ergonomic geometry, so the watch fits the wrist more comfortably.
The highlight of this release is its dial, which recreates the signature “grid” motif from the original Ingenieur SL. In production, the pattern is stamped as an intaglio texture onto a soft-iron dial blank, followed by galvanic plating treatment.
This motif consists of mutually perpendicular fine lines, pressed into the soft-iron base and then electroplated. The grid covers the entire inner dial area, while the outer section surrounding the minute track remains smooth.
The proportions and positioning of the IWC logo on the dial have been fine-tuned precisely to align perfectly with the grid pattern.
Luminous-coated hour markers guarantee clear readability at night. The dial uses a three-hand layout. The hour markers and seconds hand also return to their 1970s styling, with a date window at 3 o’clock and the “INGENIEUR” logo at 6 o’clock.
This is the factory specification sheet. Just like the genuine watch, it comes in three dial colour options: white, black and blue.
The factory offers two movement options: the Chinese-made 2892 or the Swiss SW300.
V7 Factory is basically a specialist focused on IWC replica watches, and its craftsmanship is undeniable and widely recognized by the market.
If we have to mention a drawback, it relates to the direction of the date adjustment. The genuine watch has switched from the old 2892 movement to an in-house movement, so its date adjustment direction is reversed compared with the vintage 2892. When V7 uses the 2892 movement, the date adjustment runs opposite to the genuine one. This flaw can be overlooked though, as there are not many thin movements available for this model.
There is also a 9015 version on the market for buyers to choose according to preference.
